③   Maneuverable Freeze Concentration Equipment

Freeze concentration offers the following advantages over other concentration technologies such as evaporation and membrane filtration:

  1. It maintains the relative proportions of each solute in the original solution, delivering the highest quality concentrates.

  2. It enables concentration of heat-sensitive substances, such as enzymes and vitamins, as well as effervescent solutions, such as those derived from vegetables.

  3. It is an energy-efficient technology:

    • The latent heat required for the solidification of water is one-seventh of that required for evaporation.

    • The operating energy for refrigeration is between one-half and one-tenth of the latent heat required for solidification.

Existing freeze concentration equipment, however, faces several challenges:

  1. It lacks operational flexibility, making it difficult to quickly produce concentrates at desired concentrations or to operate intermittently. This limitation is shared with other concentration technologies, such as evaporators and membrane filters.

  2. It involves complex configurations and operations, resulting in low throughput relative to equipment size and high initial costs — particularly problematic when high concentrations are required.

Our patented freeze concentration equipment addresses these challenges, offering enhanced maneuverability and efficiency.

Advances in elemental machines and control technologies for freeze concentration equipment

This new equipment is capable of producing highly concentrated, natural, mineral-balanced solutions from deep-sea water, suitable for use in culinary applications, processed foods, and functional beverages. Furthermore, these mineral solutions can be produced into novel salts with unique flavor profiles.

The mineral solutions are particularly rich in the essential nutrient magnesium (Mg) and maintain a favorable balance with calcium (Ca), with a Ca/Mg ratio of ≤2. This mineral profile helps address the following health concerns:

  1. Mg is an essential nutrient for immune defense against pathogens, including viruses. However, Mg intake is widely considered inadequate in modern diets (Lenardo M. J. et al., JEM, 2019). Furthermore, insufficient Mg intake is associated with an increased risk of serious conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes (Costello R. B. et al., Curr. Opin. Clin. Nutr. Metab. Care, 2017).

  2. Insufficient Ca intake is also linked to significant health conditions, including myocardial infarction, osteoporosis, and dementia. Moreover, a Ca/Mg intake ratio of ≥2 is associated with an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease. Ca also mitigates the bitterness of Mg and the saltiness of NaCl, resulting in a milder and more palatable taste profile for the mineral solutions.

  3. Na intake is excessive worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends reducing Na intake to lower the risk of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and related health conditions.

  4. In these mineral solutions, the minerals are present in ionized form, facilitating more efficient absorption by the body. This makes the solutions particularly suitable for elderly individuals, who typically exhibit reduced mineral absorption capacity.
